As the fire rages on the Mayor was heavily criticised and in this lesson we will consider if this was justified. We will also look closely at the heroes and villains of the fire and finally when the fire is out, the devastated city. a final consideration takes in the rebuild of the city and who was responsible for this.
Key Drama skills in this lesson are hot seating, improvisation, tableau, mime, points of tension, reports and interviews.
The learning intentions of this scheme of work are that students gain a deep insight into the drama of the incident and how people behave when put in such terrible circumstances (although there were relatively few fatalities). The human condition in such a situation brings out the good and the bad and students will understand that The Great Fire of London is a superb example of this.
