When Musselburgh fishwife Maggie Dickson is hanged for concealment of pregnancy, there is a scuffle at the scaffold as the medical students make a bid for her body. However, she is cut down and placed in a coffin. It is a fair cart ride to the cemetery and after a refreshment stop at The Sheep Heid Inn, is it the effect of the ale or is it that Maggie is banging around inside the coffin?
